Spirits of the Night (c)Jessie Cabe, 2001

Tess stood motionless in the doorway as she stared up at the full, milky moon. She took a deep breath as the brisk fall wind whipped around tousling her thick amber hair, carrying dry leaves and various pieces of debris down her street. The urge came again, for the millionth time today; it had grown steadily worse as the month went on. The pull of the old ways. Her
heritage, and tradition. Tess sighed as she looked down at her light blue sweater and faded jeans. This night was Halloween. Her night. Or, it used to be. Tess had quit the old ways two years ago, yet the urge still pulled at her. Especially on Halloween. This year seemed the worse; it made her restless and anxious.

Tess sighed once again and quietly shut the old oak door. But, the coaxing wind and moon were still out there, calling to Tess’s very soul, urging her to do things she hadn’t done in years, take up the heritage of her mother and grandmother before her. It compelled Tess as she made her way down the narrow hallway and into her small bedroom. It was kept neat and simple, a bed, chair and old desk that had been bought from an office surplus thirty years ago. It held her best friend, her connection to… well she wasn’t sure what to call it yet. The one who made her smile, and turned her on inevitably. Tess shivered as she thought about there last conversation. She turned her head and glanced out of her window, seeing the magic moon peering in at her, taunting her.

“What a night to be alone.” Tess muttered to herself as she stared at the moon for a few minuets later. Staring around her room, Tess glanced at the closet doors, which hid her secrets. Tess glanced at her watch. It glowed back an indigo 10:00pm. The last trick-or-treaters had just come and gone. What could it hurt? Tess thought to herself. Slowly she slid back the closet door and pulled the clothes aside. Peering in, Tess’s heart began to pound in her chest, making it hard to breath. She stood absolutely still staring at the worn wooden trunk that held the last resemblance of her life and heredity of the old ways. The last thing that Tess could not bear to part with.

Carefully, she pulled the trunk out into the middle of her bedroom and lowered herself to her knees. Situating herself in front of the trunk, Tess ran her fingertips lovingly over the worn surface. This was a treasure, an antique. Something that appraisers on Road Show only dream to find. It had been passed down from woman to woman... in Tess’s family for generations. It had stopped with Tess. The rebel of her family, the one first woman in a long line to quit the old ways. She was happy with her ‘new’ life, but was always compelled by the pesky wind; and she feared she always would be. Tess shook her head in hopes of shaking the thoughts away and closed her eyes for a minute.

Opening her eyes and taking a large breath and slowly opened the lid of the trunk, cringing slightly as the worn hinges creaked in protest. A musty smell over took her at once. A smell of time, spices, herbs, the smell of the old ways. Memories flowed through her, threatening bittersweet tears. Tess peered in at the tiny bottles filled with various flora …and some fauna…various papers, yellowed with time, scrawled with the handwriting of her mother and grandmother. Reaching in, Tess pulled out a large, very old, leather bound book. She fingered it lovingly- feeling the urge in her grow stronger and stronger. Gently, she flipped through some of the worn pages, reading the old limericks, letting them flow through her, feeling more alive then she had in years. Tess gingerly set the old spell-book aside with a soft smile. With shaking hands, and a racing heart- Tess reached into the trunk. Slowly, she retracted the stretchy light black dress. It was ragged from time, but surprisingly clean. Tess brought it up to her face, and inhaled. It was a smell long forgotten. One of the wind, the moon, fields of lavender, sweet vanilla, and dying campfires. It was the very essence of Tess. Tears came to her face as the urge became overwhelming. Slowly, as if in a trance, Tess rose to her feet, hugging the dress to her chest. Tess closed her bedroom door enough to see the mirror. Clutching the dress to her for a minute, Tess glanced at her reflection, seeing her cheeks flushed and the excitement in her eyes. Laying the dress across the orange, velour covered lounge chair that sat in front of her computer, Tess pulled her sweater off her head and peeled off her jeans, kicking them aside; revealing a cute, black, satin undergarment set decorated with tiny orange jack o lanterns. Walking to the desk, she removed her watch and picked up the dress. Tess’s heart raced. Putting this on meant she was allowing part of the old ways back into her life; something she vowed would stay a memory. Glancing over her shoulder, Tess shot a quick look toward the window as if looking for a sign. She was answered by the glow of the moon shining over her. Taking a deep breath, Tess reached for the dress. Carefully, she pulled the garment over her head and pulling it into placed, smoothed it over her curves. It fit perfect, even better then she remembered. Well, it had been two years since she last wore it, so, was a bit snug in places. Reaching back, she pulled the ponytail out of her thick, curly amber hair and ran her hands through it, combing it back out of her face. Once again Tess turned to stare at the mirror, she gasped when she saw the woman
staring back at her. It was a woman, who she didn’t recognize. More a temptress then the witch, the dress used to portray. It hugged her chest, the neckline, dipping low to show just a hint of what is underneath. The stretchy material hugged her waist and skimmed over her slightly wide hips a slit on either side starting at the top of her thigh, exposing her shapely legs, and bare feet. As she stared over the reflection in the mirror …she stared at her face. Her blue eyes shone like two sapphires, as deep as the heart of the ocean; filled with excitement and life. Her cheeks were flushed and her hair was curled wildly, slightly in her face, hanging just over her breasts…..Tess stared mesmerized at the transformation.

“DING!” Tess jumped and whirled around at the sound. She walked over to her computer and peered at the screen. Her heart leapt almost to her throat when she saw the little dialogue box.

‘LovesGhost: Hi Sweetie. Tess smiled to her self, how appropriate for this day she said as she read the screen name. She climbed over the chair and sat down, putting one knee up and sitting on her opposite foot. She glanced down at her almost totally exposed chest and leg. What is it about Halloween? Tess murmured to herself, it always gets me so turned on and excited. It didn’t help matters that she was about to talk to Gabriel. He was the one that since her ex. who had been able to reach her. They talked about minimal subjects day after day, and occasionally, it would flourish in to something more passionate. Staring at the screen, fingers poised against over the keyboard, Tess found her self wishing desperately it could be even more then the passionate words, the surging feelings, but ending always alone, with a fond goodnight. This time, she didn’t want the story line, she wanted him. Heart, body and soul. Taking a deep breath, Tess typed a greeting.

‘MoonGrl: Hello Gabriel J …Happy Halloween.’ And so it went, starting casually enough. Your typical friendly conversation. Topics light and non consequential. Then as usual, the flirting began, simple banter that brought Tess’s blood to a boil. Her senses seemed to reel. As if sensing something, Gabriel stopped the flow with a simple question, “ So, what were you for Halloween?” Tess’s heart nearly stopped. She had once upon a time told Gabriel about her and the old ways, but she was never sure that he believed her. Well, she thought, now could be her chance.

“Well, I had not hat or broom…..but have this dress on….” She trailed on, not sure of her approach yet. Before she could type more to clarify,

“ Oooh, a sexy witch then?” A soft smile played at Tess’s lips. She wondered just how far she could take this.

“You remembered.” Was all she typed. There was a considerable pause before she got another message.

“You’re wearing THAT dress?? J I thought u had quit your old ways.” Again Tess smiled at the appreciation of her dress. One thing she liked about Gabriel was that he was always curious, never judgmental. And he could always turn her on.

“Yes, this dress…J Here I am sitting here with nothing to do, no one to see.” Tess decided to tease him.

“Pity you have no one there to play with...” Tess giggled aloud at that. She could tell that Gabriel was becoming as excited as she was. Tess coyly wrote back:

“*Sighs and pouts*...Poor little witch am I…” Gabriel’s response was almost immediate.

“ Too bad you don’t have a spell that could make me reach you through the ‘puter…” Tess jumped and gasped aloud, staring straight at the one word ‘spell’. What was stopping her? She was, after all still by blood a witch. She turned her head and stared at the worn spell book sitting next to her trunk. Lost in thought she caught her bottom lip between her teeth. Could she do it still? , Would it be wise? She had given up the old ways, and doing this could cause her to go back.

“ DING!” Tess jumped, the alert scaring her back into consciousness.

“Tess, are you still there hun?” Shaking, Tess typed back quickly,

“Yes, I’m still here, ill be back in a second though.” Slowly standing, Tess walked to where the spell book still laid and gently picked it up. Of course there wouldn’t be a spell for making people come through computers. The majority of the spells had been written a generation or two ago. Way before the old Apple Macs, Tess thought to herself comically. Flipping through the pages, she looked for one that possibly could work. Then she came to it, spiritual transport. Tess’s brow furrowed as she looked at the old limerick, written years ago. It was the closest thing.

“ Gabriel has such a strong, vibrant spirit, it just might work.” Tess laid the book, still open on the floor again. Reaching into the trunk she pulled out a red candle, that smelled of passion, and a vial that held dried lavender and vanilla bean mixed together. Standing, she scanned her room for one more thing. Tess went to her dresser and came back with a tiny sample bottle of Calvin Klein’s Obsession. It was the smell she knew Gabriel wore. She had never known why she had picked up that small vial when passing the display at the mall, she know knew it was yet another act of fate.

Tess closed the lid to the trunk, and moved under the windowsill. Draping a cloth over the flat top, she set out the candle, two vials, a small stone bowl, a match and spell book in an organized fashion. She then switched off her bedroom light and shut the door. The room became totally dark except for the soft glow from the computer monitor. Making her way back toward the trunk she opened the curtains halfway in her window, letting the moonlight spill in over her and the trunk. Taking a match, Tess lit the candle, inhaling its spicy aroma. It was amazing how this whole process came back to her so easily. Kneeling in front of the trunk Tess recited the spell, speaking words of passion and poetry. She picked up the vanilla/lavender mixture into the stone bowl, and murmured about her feelings and desires, keeping with the fashion of the spell. Picking up the small glass bottle that held the cologne, she whispered of her feelings of Gabriel, telling her friend the moon all that she had kept inside. She then added a few drops of the cologne to the stone bowl, Gabriel’s scent mixing with Tess’s. As she did this, Tess told the moon of what she wanted, no, needed this night. Picking up the passion candle, she watched as she dripped wax into the mixture in the bowl; symbolizing what she hoped to accomplish with Gabriel this night. Murmuring the closing part of the spell, Tess stood and opened the window a crack. The wind was strangely still. Calmly, she picked up the bowl with her mixture and set it on the sill in front of the open part of the window; next to it, she set the red candle, still lit. With one last glance at the moon, she went back to the computer and sat back down.

“Sorry it took so long.” Tess wrote as she realized how much time had passed.

“Oh, that’s alright J” Gabriel and Tess fell back into easy banter. Speaking of likes and dislikes, poetry, hockey and dancing. Though this was comfortable, she could not help but glance at the windowsill. Sadly, she thought, maybe he didn’t want this as much as she did. She shook her head and sighed.

“Sooo..” Gabriel typed, “Did you find a spell that lets me through the ‘puter’ yet?” Tess laughed in spite of her self.

“If you only knew...” Tess laughed and then stopped suddenly when a rush of wind came through her room, swirling around her and the candle, putting it out. The air was suddenly different in the room. Turning her chair, she stood slowly and looked around as she felt a presence in the room. Not being able to put her finger on it, Tess made her way to the middle of the room. She felt a faint but perceptibly warm touch of a human hand on her shoulder. Fingers traced the neckline of her dress, slow and tantalizing. Tess stood very still at the feeling of it, afraid to move, afraid she was only dreaming, and slightly confused. She had never in her life done a spell for her self.

Tess felt the fingers trail over her and lift her hair off her shoulders, exposing her smooth neckline. A small shiver went through Tess. She could feel the presence of large body behind her, but was still uncertain. The presence moved closer, but not touching, and warm, but invisible deeply massaged the tension in her shoulders. Tess’s heart started to pound in her chest, but she closed her eyes and relaxed into the feeling of warmth and security. Strangely, she was not afraid, but felt very safe and content. As the tension began to drain away, a soft but disembodied voice whispered faintly in her right ear.

“That's it...relax...don't be afraid.” Warm breath caressed her neckline, feeling mere centimeters away. Tess shivered slightly at the air on her sensitive neck and smiled as she recognized the voice. Gabriel she thought to her self. She dropped her head slowly, closing her eyes and sighed deeply.

“Tess, your spell called me here…What is your bidding?” The voice whispered in here ear as the invisible hands traced lightly down her arms to her fingers. Tess’s eyes opened wide and watched the hair on her arms stand on end. She shivered again and opened her mouth, not sure what to say, startled to find the spell working. The feeling of warm breath tickled the side of her neck, and the faint smell of Obsession floated around her. Tess felt two, strong, male hands running through her hair from the base of her neck, making her tremble. She again hears the voice, and as always, curious, coaxing, never judgmental.

“Tell me Tess, why did you call me here, its okay, you know I you can tell me anything.” Licking her dry lips, Tess tried to clear her thoughts a bit. In a slightly thick voice she murmured “Well…I was extremely lonely…I wanted some company…your company tonight…You see, certain holidays, put me in certain moods….” She chuckled to her self as her sentence trailed off. Tess felt the hands wander from her shoulders down her waist to her rounded hips, squeezing and pulling her back, her bottom against something, recognizable, even with no form. She then felt warm wet lips caressing her sensitive neck, just where and how she liked to be kissed. His lips traced just behind her ear, the touch of his tongue lightly grazing her earlobe.

“What kind of mood Sweetie?” Tess heart stared beating fast and her breath came short. Taking a few breaths to steady herself she answered honestly.“A very intimate, romantic, kind of …frisky..mood” she murmured huskily with a secret grin.

“Well then Honey, you cast the right spell.” The voice whispered and then the feeling of the lips returned. They kissed her neck passionately, teasing her with his tongue and lips. As the passion grew, Tess could smell the mix of his cologne and her lavender and vanilla smell grew more potent and intoxicating. She could feel a strong male chest moving down her back. She watched in surprise as she saw the hem of her dress star to rise, feeling strong hands caressing her smooth thigh. The hand caressed her inner thigh. She again felt the strong chest move up along her back, taking the hand to caress the top of her thigh.Tess ran an unsteady hand through her hair, not sure what to say or do. This was an all-new and arousing experience to her. Although she couldn’t see him, she could feel his hard presence pressing against her, rubbing against the snug fabric. She then gasped as she felt one warm hand cup her supple breast through the low cut bodice, squeezing and rubbing against the black fabric, teasing her. Tess’s nipples hardened automatically in response to his caresses, and she watched in awe, feeling the hand, but not seeing it. She then felt his lips kissing her ear, cheek, neck, his warm breath fanning over her. Tess made little sighing noises of pleasure in her throat, pressing against the invisible form, wanting more of the touch. Her movements slowed by the awe of the situation.Tess felt the hand slide up her thigh, under her dress, over her abdomen, rubbing lightly. She felt the waistband of her panties being tugged on, and moved slightly as a hand feels its way in there. Tess sucked in air, knowing the hand would find her wet with excitement. The touch was familiar yet exciting. The hand touched her folds, spreading the moisture around, over her sensitive clit in very slow deliberate circles, causing her to arch and moan lightly against the hand. The other hand slid up the bodice of Tess’s dress, and reached in side under her bra, cupping her breast, squeezing her nipple gently, making it hard and sensitive immediately. Tess bit her bottom lip softly in an act of control, and to savor the pleasure flowing through her. She let her head fall back against Gabriel’s shoulder as he caressed her breasts. A soft moan escaped her lips.  With her head back, Tess could feel his warm breath fan over her full lips. She felt the light brush of his lips against hers, then sighed deeply as  they settled more firmly against hers into a deep, passionate kiss. Tess  could feel all a swirl of emotion and sensation around her, and she new  Gabriel felt them too… Smell, touch, passion, it was all very sensitizing  and erotic for her. Tess gasped as she felt a finger sliding against her  slit caressing her opening, and her knees felt as if they would buckle. The  hands then moved out of her bodice and panties, caressing her hips, breast  and stomach, while his lips and tongue caressed hers. Tess felt her panties  slide off her down her hips and to her feet, she staring at where the hands  should be, stepped out of them. She then shivered violently as the lips  moved from hers to the sensitive part on her neck. Tess moaned lightly when,  he used his teeth, nibbling softly, setting her on fire. Gabriel’s invisible  hands moved under the bodice of her dress unhooking her bra. Tess saw her dress being raised, and she instinctively raised her arms. The  dress was cast off, along with her bra. She felt a slight bubble of laughter  at her clothes moving seemingly on her own. The urge to laugh subsided when  she felt the warm gentle fingers caress her nipples, hardened from  excitement and cool air, from the slightly open window. His mouth was on her  neck again, sucking gently, savoring her soft flesh. The smell of their   aroused bodies swirled around them, making them both quiver in excitement.  One of the invisible hands slid their palm over her womanhood, cupping her  mound gently, teasing with his fingers, until her found her opening,  exploring the warmth and wetness, probing inside her gently. Tess felt her
self sway toward the invisible but very solid and familiar form in front of  her. Her head falls aside that e feel of his mouth on her neck and shivered  at his exploring fingers.

“Oh yessss..” she whispered softly.

Strong hands guided Tess back into her chair, laying her back and spreading  her legs. There was a pause and she heard a soft male noise of appreciation,  and she smiled guessing he was inspecting her. Tess then moaned as two  fingers were pushed deep inside her. Her hips arched off the chair to move  against the invading digits. Her back then followed her hips as she felt his  mouth wander down her torso. Using his lips, teeth and tongue, Gabriel made  a path of fire between her breasts, then circling each one, teasing. His  warm mouth then enveloped her right nipple, sucking firmly then moving to  the left. Tess’s head laid against the back of the chair and she moaned, her  eyes drifting close for a second, then staring forward, not seeing his form,  but feeling the undeniable energy from it. Gabriel’s mouth continued its  trail over Tess’s body, his invisible lips roaming, his free hand caressing  her supple skin. The hand then took Tess’s, squeezed it and lead it toward  him, until it encircled something long, hard…without form, but with a  visible drop of moisture on the end. Tess, recognizing immediately what it  was licked her lips slowly and sighed in pleasure. Her soft hands ran over  the length of Gabriel’s hot, hard form, still moving her body against his  invisible hands. The form in Tess’s hands stiffened noticeably at her touch,  the wide shaft pulsing as she gripped it.

“Ohhh Tess, yesss…” The voice rumbled through her, causing Tess to moan in  turn. Guided by her moans, the invisible fingers move faster, deeper now,  curling to stroke her inner front wall, maximizing her pleasure, coaxing her  to lift her hips in rhythm and small whimpers of passion emerge from her.  Tess continued to stroke the hard form, caressing it tenderly. Gabriel  removed her hands from his throbbing shaft and pulled her gently down on to  the soft carpet. Running his hands over her flushed body, he bent his head  and began kissing her inner thighs, getting a sample of the juices he was  about to delve into. His roving invisible lips licked and caressed her slit,  lathering her warm flushed mound. Tess gasped at the feeling of his lips and  her hips moved off the floor. This position brought Gabriel’s invisible   manhood close to Tess’s mouth. She felt the presence of his pulsating shaft,  and reaching a hand up, she gently caressed him. Then licking her lips, she  pressed a soft kiss on the velvety head. “Mmmmmmm.” The soft moan reverberated through her, causing her to shiver in  delight as Gabriel’s mouth continues to work, licking, and caressing her  inner thighs. His tongue darted in and out of her soft folds, tasting her  juices. He finally settled on her clit, licking and sucking it ravenously,  intently. Tess whimpered in the lovely mix of agony and pleasure from the  assault of Gabriel’s tongue. After taking a deep breath to for control, she  continued her own exploration, kissing and exploring his hard form with her  tongue and lips. Her body started to shake, breath coming short, and heart  pounding rapidly. Gabriel’s hard form moved against Tess, responding to her  warm, soft mouth. Moaning loudly, Gabriel’s two strong hands squeezed her  bottom firmly, pulling her closer to his face, which only made an imprint  between her legs. Tess’s hips moved against the form of his face, as she  continued to tease his hard shaft, taking it in her mouth, sucking lightly.  The voice moaned…all around her, disembodied, … yet also in her head,  piercing her very soul, “ Tess…” She shivered deeply at the awe inspiring sound of it, and sighed  deeply. Tess then found herself being lifted in the air, suspended by  strong arms. Her eyes widen in slight confusion, not sure what she is  expecting to see. Tess’s lithe body lowered on to something hard, and the  hazy outline of a figure began to appear. Tess peered at the form, feeling  the energy and passion around them, making a connection. Strong arms wrapped  around Tess, lowering her on to Gabriel’s long thick shaft, his hazy image  stared into her eyes….his manhood slid like a hand in a glove as her body  becomes impaled on him. Tess smiled at the image below her, immediately  recognizing Gabriel. Her eyes drifted close and her breath caught at their  joining. A moan escaped her lips, and she smiled into his hazy eyes again.  Gabriel’s body moved under her. “Happy Halloween” his hazy form mouthed  silently as he stared in to the depths of her sapphire eyes, his pupils  visible but staring straight into the window of her soul, letting him feel  the tender warmth of her body as well as her spirit as the lovemaking  intensified...

Tess’s eyes locked on to the hazy shadow of Gabriel’s and stayed there. She  mouthed back the salutations of the holiday, before joining her mouth to his  for a kiss of passion and life. As his warm lips brushed hers their bodies  locked together, moving in unison, brought his form into sharper focus as  their souls connect from across the miles. Tess whispered Gabriel’s name  over and over as they moved together, feeling so very close and connected to  him. Gabriel laid Tess on her back, spreading her legs as he moved against  her, slow grinding movements intensified with a deeper thrust, so that the  head of his hard shaft played against the depths of her wetness. He kissed  her reverently, their tongues dancing together, breathing heavy and ragged. Tess murmured incoherent and inaudible words of passion and care against  Gabriel’s lips, wrapping her legs around his hips and pulled him closer to  her, forcing him deeper. His movements grew stronger and more rapid, and he  moaned her name in a passionate howl, pushing deeper and harder with each  thrust. Tess’s hands ran up and down his back, caressing him tenderly. Her  lips moved over his, to his cheek and neck, sucking on it lightly. She  matched her pace to his moaning loudly, “Oh Gabriel yessss..” His body enveloped her, legs, hands, hair, arms lips  hearts, and souls, tangled together, to be as close as possible. He felt the  familiar tingling and ache deep inside start to grow as he pumped her hard,  passionately, grabbing her hips, pulling her closer; feeling almost ready to  explode. As her body moved with his, Tess felt the excitement and tension  build fast. Her legs moved restlessly, and her head tosses from side to  side, she murmured his name over and over, staring deep into the practically  clear image of his eyes. Gabriel’s form melded with Tess’s, his hard shaft  gripped by her tight womanhood, “ TESSSSSS,” Gabriel moaned. His body began to quiver with pleasure with  release. The sound of Tess’s name on his lips, all the smells, feelings,  emotions building all together, released in a rush of energy and passion.  Her body began to spasm against his, and shy cried out his name, “Oh gawd Gabriel yesss.” Gabriel made one last deep thrust and he erupted  spasming with her, pumping deep, holding her tight to him, moaning as he  released. Tess’s arms wrapped tight around Gabriel, her lips on his  neck…moving with him, becoming as one as possible, she whimpered in the
power of their joint release. Gradually the movements subsided. Gabriel’s  warm arms held Tess tight, as he relaxed, not wanting the spell to end yet.  Tess kept her arms tight around him also, not wanting to let go of him. She  knew that they were now joined forever, and that the old ways would never  totally leave her. Praying with all her heart for one of those “24hr  spells”. She smiled gently to his perfect image and kissed his lips  tenderly. Gabriel held Tess close so her body nestled with his. He kissed  her lightly and whispered gently, lovingly perhaps, “ The spell will last as long as you want me here, for my soul is with you
tonight."
